Gil Espejo is honored to serve as President of the Board for Dogs with Wings, a role he has proudly held for the past three years. His journey with DWW began in 2016 after witnessing a powerful moment in court: a young person, testifying as a victim of crime, requested that Facility Service Dog DWW Fletcher and his handler accompany her to the witness stand. Deeply moved by the impact of that moment, Gil was inspired to get involved. He began as a boarding home volunteer and quickly embraced a wide range of roles, including whelping (an impressive 11 litters), puppy raising, and assisting in the kennel.
A retired teacher and principal, Gil continues to enjoy reconnecting with former students who remain active in their communities. Throughout his career, he was deeply committed to community service, often volunteering alongside students and colleagues. He fondly recalls his time in education and misses the daily interactions with both students and staff.
Gil finds great meaning in volunteering with a community of like-minded individuals dedicated to helping others. He is continually inspired by the generosity and spirit of DWW volunteers, who willingly give their time to support visits to schools, hospitals, and seniors’ homes. He values the opportunity to collaborate with a board of directors who are compassionate, driven, and united by a shared mission to make the world a better place.
