This year Dogs with Wings is celebrating our 25th anniversary and this week we are highlighting National Puppy Day! Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a puppy trainer for Service Dogs? Meet our Edmonton & Red Deer Puppy Trainer, Chihiro!
"Ever since I can remember I've always had a passion for working with animals, specifically dogs. I've also always known that I wanted my career to be meaningful and focused on helping others. Training Service Dogs has been the best of both worlds, and I feel very grateful to get to do what I do. When I first started at Dogs with Wings, I worked mainly with our adult dogs, and that was such a wonderful experience. I soon fell in love with working with the puppies and I was lucky enough to be taken under the wing of our previous Puppy Trainer who taught me so much. There are many dog trainers who refuse to work with puppies, and it's not very hard to see why. They put everything into their mouth (including your hands - ouch!), they are loud, they have accidents all over your house, and they don't let you get a good night's sleep... and I love it! It's so much fun to watch them grow and see their different personalities develop. There are so many milestones within their puppy year, and I get to be a part of them all. Working with puppies has taught me so much about patience, consistency, and that all great things take time and hard work. Each time I get to see one of the puppies I trained go from a little blob of fur who doesn't even know their name yet, to a grown adult dog performing their job for their client, it brings everything full circle and reminds me why I do what I do."
