Dogs with Wings 25th Anniversary

Dogs with Wings is celebrating a special milestone in 2021 with our 25th Anniversary.  Founded in 1996, Dogs with Wings worked hard to change lives in our community for 25 years by providing highly trained assistance dogs to individuals with disabilities.  Please consider joining our 25 for $25 Campaign!

Over those 25 years, Dogs with Wings has helped hundreds of clients with everlasting impacts to lives.  Of course, this success has been achieved as a team effort with a force of Board & Staff members, Volunteers, generous Donors and incredible Sponsors over the years.  Dogs with Wings is charging into our 25th Anniversary during a global pandemic with passion and resilience.

In honour of our 25th Anniversary, our goal is to add 25 new monthly donors at $25 per month.  Of course, any donation amount you consider, Dogs with Wings would certainly put your dollars to work!  Please make Dogs with Wings your charity of choice and be one of our first 25 new monthly donors - YOUR gift will change lives!

‘Join Us’ at the Dogs with Wings UN-Gala

DWW Un-Gala Graphic

Unfortunately, due to the impact of Covid-19, we have had to cancel our annual Raise Our Wings Gala scheduled for October 17, 2020, our largest fundraiser of the year!

Although we are not hosting an in-person event this year, we thought we could have a little fun with the event’s nickname and still raise some funds by "selling tickets" and "hosting an auction" - without there being any event to attend nor any items to bid on.....truly living up to the event’s nickname of the UN-GALA!

I would love to support DWW and participate in the UN-Gala!

$250 “Let’s Go to the UN-Gala Package”
I would have purchased 2 Gala tickets, 2 drinks and an Auction item. So glad I can stay home and order in!
 $500 “UN-Living it Up Package”
I would have purchased 2 Gala tickets, a bottle of wine, 2 drinks, an Auction item, and made a donation.
 $1,000  “UN-Decked Out Package”
I would have purchased 4 Gala tickets, 4 drinks, a bottle of wine, 2 Auction items, bought a new dress or shirt & tie, visited the salon or barber and hired a sitter.
$2,000   “UN-Entourage Package”
I would have purchased a Table, 2 bottles of wine, 2 Auction items, bid on a Live Auction item, and my guests would have all made a donation.
 $___________ “You UN-Name it Package”
Here is my donation. I have created my own amount.
Your tax deductible donation will provide the funds needed for our dogs-in-training programming and change lives for the better.
"The love of dogs is so great and to have not just their love ... but their support, trust and guidance - is life-changing. I have seen firsthand the difference a DWW dog can make to a person; how much their lives have changed when they have paired with their service dog!
On the flip side, I've seen the amazing amount of love that the DWW dog gets back from their client - who ultimately becomes their family and it's overwhelming. DWW service dogs are the only LOVE money can buy! It's powerful.
I am so disappointed that I won't get to host this year, but I know that you will continue to support this amazing organization at their UN-Gala.”

Raise Our Wings UN-Gala Host

Our UN-Gala Auctioneer Colin, dropped by Dogs with Wings to practice his skills! While he won't get to showcase them for you this year, our Service Dogs loved practicing with him. Check out this video!

This year, we invite you to support the Raise Our Wings UN-Gala! Your ticket "donation" will provide the funding needed to train exceptional Assistance Dogs to be placed with future clients.

Dogs with Wings 2020 Graduating Class

In the face of adversity, Dogs with Wings Assistance Dog Society (DWW) continues to strive for business as usual.  Of course, today’s times have provided our non-profit organization with more opportunities to expand our mission in helping individuals with disabilities to gain independence.  This is also now a time of virtual reality; a new way to reach our supporters of Volunteers, Donors, Sponsors and most importantly, our Clients.

Today, we celebrate another successful graduation of Client/Certified Dog Teams!  Our graduates have completed their training programs and have been matched with their fur-ever families to do what they have trained and worked so hard to achieve.  Dogs with Wings is so proud of their accomplishments and we invite you to help us in celebrating the lives they will impact and change evermore for the better.  Help us to give our graduates a virtual congratulations.  Here’s our DWW 2020 Graduating Class:

Shaw Birdies for Kids Presented by AltaLink 2020 Campaign

As we forge through unchartered history, Dogs with Wings Assistance Dog Society (DWW) is partnering for our 4th year with Shaw Birdies for Kids Presented by AltaLink (BFK) for another fundraiser matching program!  The campaign kicks off today, Sunday, May 24th and runs through to Sunday, August 30th.  Mark your calendars for the last weekend in August and plan to attend this exciting Pro Golf Tournament.  DWW will once again have a booth in the Spectator Village.  Stop by to visit and join in the fun!

(Please Note:  For up-to-date information on the status of the Shaw Charity Classic, please go to BFK’s website at:

During the BFK campaign, all donations made to DWW will be channeled through the BFK matching funds program, giving DWW the opportunity to receive additional funding.  As donations are made through the BFK on-line donation page, DWW will receive 100% of the donation – no service fees or additional surcharges.  Your donation will be matched up to 50%, making your donation dollars go even further!

This year, the matching funds received through the BFK program, will be directly applied to the operating costs for DWW as we endeavor to recuperate the 2020 losses due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Won’t you help us to continue our work to breed, raise, train and place certified dogs for individuals with disabilities?  Your generosity will be changing lives for the better . . . one dog at a time!  To donate now, click here:

Public Announcement – Covid 19

We had hoped our facility would be open by May 04, but this will not be happening. We will continue to evaluate and adhere to recommendations from Alberta Health Services and our Government. We do not have a confirmed date to re-open.  We will inform everyone of our resumption plan when we know more. If you are no longer able to keep our dog in training with you during the day, please let us know and we will arrange alternate plans

Our staff will be available via email and will be working from home and welcome your emails. To contact a member of our staff, visit our staff directory ( We thank you for your understanding!

Clients & Volunteers

The safety and health of our staff, clients, and volunteers is of the utmost importance to us. We have been monitoring Alberta Health Services and the World Health Organization, and have been in constant contact with our veterinarian consultants. Infectious disease experts and multiple international and domestic human and animal health organizations agree there is no evidence at this point to indicate that dogs can become ill with COVID-19 or that they spread it to other animals, including people. However, it has been found that dogs and other animals can be fomites for the virus in their fur and equipment. We recommend the following for our client and in-training DWW Dogs.

  • Sanitize and clean your collar, tags, leash, easy walk, halti, and vest (if applicable) every day. All equipment and vests can be cleaned in your washing machine and hung to dry.
  • No public outings (unless completely necessary for clients) and avoid contact with people in public spaces and on walks.
  • Discontinue off leash park visits, as they are not a safe space at this time.
  • Do not allow the public to pet your dog or interact with your dog at all, including on neighbourhood walks.
  • Neighbourhood walks are permitted, but we recommend not in large groups. Only one family member should take the dog on walks. Our DWW pen will be open for play time, but only one foster and dog are allowed in each pen.
  • Do not kiss your dog or share food with your dog, and wash your hands often.
  • For our dogs in training, we ask you to keep your dog at home if you are able to do so. If not, please contact your trainer as soon as possible to make other arrangements. Please do not enter our facility without prior permission from a DWW staff member. Puppy classes and training classes are cancelled until further notice. Trainers will be doing daily check ins with our dogs, so watch your inbox!

If you, or a member of your family, becomes ill with Covid 19, we recommend the following:

  • Limit contact with other animals and your own DWW dog until more information is known about the virus.
  • Have another family member (if applicable) take care of feeding and playing with your DWW dog.
  • Do not share food, kiss, or hug them and wash your hands before and after any contact with them.

Events & Fundraising

This is a difficult time for Dogs with Wings, as we have had to cancel all events and fundraisers in the coming months. If you are able to support or donate to us, we would greatly appreciate it. To donate, we encourage you to make a gift through our website ( Donations and fundraising questions or inquiries can be sent to

For those worried about our resident cat, Clive, he will be provided for and there is a staff schedule for his needs, and the facility has been disinfected with strict protocols for those entering and leaving the facility. If you miss seeing Clive, check out his Instagram account @dww_clive to get your “Clive fix.”

We thank everyone for their support and concern during this time. We will miss seeing our DWW family face to face, but it is very important to us to keep our community safe and healthy. Watch for us on social media, stay in touch through email, and keep sending photos! We’ll see you in May!
