Adoption

Companion Dog

Companion Dogs provide crucial support for individuals who benefit from a trained service dog but do not require public access. These dogs enhance their clients’ quality of life and independence by:

  • Assisting with physical needs
  • Enhancing social interactions
  • Supporting well-being at home and in dog-friendly public places

Dogs with Wings will consider the application of future Companion Dog applicants if the following criteria are met:

  • Applicants must have a disability (assessed on a case-by-case basis).
  • Child applicants must be over the age of 3 years old at application and will not be considered for placement until they are over the age of 5 years old.
  • Is able to meet the emotional, physical, and financial needs of the Companion Dog and offer a stable home environment.
  • Demonstrates the need for a Companion Dog and that they are not able to train their own pet dog to assist the applicant.
  • DWW requires our Companion Dog to be the only dog in the home and we cannot assist clients who have a pet dog(s) (exceptions can be considered for other resident DWW dogs).

Companion dogs are adoptable for $3,000 and will still get up to a year of follow up care. If you have any questions, please contact our Adoptions Department at adoptions@dogswithwings.ca.
